Kyle Davidson has been rebuilding the organization’s prospect pool since 2022. He already has several top prospects who are still working their way to the NHL. While it’s not progressing as quickly as some would like, the talent in the system is undeniable. The pattern that Davidson has shown over the past four-plus years is patience. He continued down that road at this deadline.

He took advantage of the cap crunch in Edmonton by taking on Andrew Mangiapane’s contract for this season. This allowed him to get a 1st-round pick in return for two pending unrestricted free agents, Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. They already have young guys, including Ryan Greene, Connor Bedard, Frank Nazar, Sam Rinzel, Artyom Levshunov, and Alex Vlasic, making an impact at the NHL level. They have another wave of young talent coming very soon, including guys like Kevin Korchinski, Anton Frondell, and Sacha Boisvert. Despite all that talent, Davidson ensured the pipeline would remain full, as he now has nine picks in the first two rounds of the next two drafts.

The Blackhawks remain pretty far out of playoff contention. This would make it very tempting for Kyle Davidson to make a massive trade. He held true to his plan and remained patient. He has the assets and cap space to bring in any star player who becomes available.

Trade Deadline Grade: B+
